In this School holidays workshop, artist and illustrator Jason Howe will guide you through methods of designing and painting your own skateboard deck!
Jason will take you through the processes of finding inspiration, brainstorming and sketching up your ideas and will give you some simple illustrative techniques to give your design more impact.
He will then demonstrate how to transfer your design to your deck, how to prime or stain your board before applying your image then colour it using paints, markers or coloured pencil. We will then finish up the art deck with final details and a gloss varnish ready to hang!
All materials and skate decks will be supplied.
Paints will be used so please dress appropriately
Suitable for Kids 8+ (parents welcome too! Big kids at heart)
Skating and art have a history that goes back to the beginnings of the sport.
Since the first graphic was drawn onto a board, the culture of skateboarding has grown hand-in-hand with the movements in visual arts and it is the skate cultures embrace of individual style, approach, and purpose that attracts people to this distinctive art practice.
And like the inclusive surf community, skaters and skate artists span several generations.
