Home grown and home made food has always been a big part of my life. Born on a sheep and cattle farm in Gippsland, Victoria, my parents and grandparents grew and made whatever they could from scratch. My four siblings and I spent many long hours picking blackberries by the creek, peeling and bottling preserved peaches, and pipping and dicing melons for jam. As kids, it seemed so old fashioned!
It’s funny though how these things remain with you. Though now living in suburbia, I love to grow and cook what I can from fresh produce. I’ve come to appreciate that home-made tastes so much better, contains only natural ingredients, and make a wonderful gift.
Many friends (recipients of my jams, pickles and chutney gifts over the years) finally persuaded me to start my own business to sell these home-made preserves locally – and so they can order what and whenever they wish!
